Do the residents enjoy an active lifestyle?

Carolina Village residents are from all areas of the United States as well as foreign countries. Diversity of socio-economic, work experiences and religious denominations are blended together in harmony so residents share the enjoyment of cultural, educational, recreational and social activities at the Village as well as the Hendersonville area.

The residents are the heart, the soul, and the reason Carolina Village exists. It is a community full of active, vibrant, accomplished and just-plain friendly people.

How is Carolina Village governed?

Carolina Village was developed as a result of group of local concerned residents and is not a part of any chain or under the control of any other organization.

The sixteen member volunteer Board of Directors is composed of leading citizens, business executives, clergy, physicians, that are either currently active in business or have retired. The board provides long-range planning and is actively involved in major projects that occur at the Village.

Operating policies are established by the board as well as an oversight of the financial and operational activities.

The management team consists of an Executive Director and department managers that are responsible for the day to day operation of the Village as well as implementing the policies of the Board of Directors.

Our residents have an official say in how things run around the Village through a very active Residents Council, many resident directed committees, and two seats on the board of directors designated for residents.

What types of fees do residents pay?

Residents pay an entrance fee and a monthly service fee with both fees varying according to the type of living unit selected.

The entrance fee is a one-time fee that entitles the resident to a right to occupy but does not carry any title of ownership. Entrance fees are due at move-in and if a resident decides to leave the Village a prorated refund would be made based on the length of occupancy.

The entrance fee assures residents access to the Medical Center (skilled nursing) and the Care Center (assisted living) area either on a temporary or permanent basis, at a substantial savings over comparable nursing facilities. While receiving care in either the Medical Center or Care Center, the only extra charge above the monthly fee will be two meals per day (one is included in the monthly fee), drugs, supplies and specialized therapy such as physical or speech therapies.

What are the age and health requirements to be admitted for residency at the Village?

You must be at least age 62 and be able to carry out your activities of daily living. While a cane and/or walker is certainly permitted, you must be ambulatory.

If I go on the waiting list does the $1000 waiting list fee apply to the entrance fee?

Yes, your waiting list fee does apply to your entrance fee at move-in but is non-refundable if you decide to never move into the Village. However, if the Village denies residency due to being non-ambulatory or not being able to carry out your activities of daily living, the Village would then make a full refund.

If I am on the waiting list, do I have to accept any unit offered and how much time do I have to move in?

You can refuse units for any reason and not lose your place on the waiting list. If you accept a unit you will need to provide your financial information as to assets and income. Further your physician will need to complete a medical form supplied by the Village. Upon receipt and approval of the medical report and financial information, you would then have an agreed period of time to move in. No further payment of entrance fee is due until move in, but must be paid in full at that time.

Are there any tax advantages to being a resident of Carolina Village?

Yes, your one time entrance fee is currently a 44.79% medical tax deduction in the year in which you pay. Your monthly service charge is also currently available as an ongoing medical deduction. This deduction will vary from year to year. In 2010, the deduction percentage was 44.79% or an annual deduction of $9298.00 for a single resident  ($12,324 for a couple).
